Chick Flicks for Galentine’s Day

Hands up if you’re spending Valentine’s day with your besties instead of a bae? I am! And that’s the way I like it.

I’m so lucky that me and my housemates will all be together for the dreaded 14th of Feb. A day I’ve never enjoyed. I’m determined to make it fun and girly though and make Galentine’s day a tradition. Boys suck, but girls don’t!

A movie night with takeaway and Sarah Jessica Parker Wine is definitely called for. I might even get glammed up for the occasion. I’ve always been a fan of a chick flick so here are my recommendations for what to watch with your girlfriends (in real life or via zoom).

New Release: To All the Boys, Always & Forever

This one is sure to put a smile on your face. Even if you feel like you’re a bit past the age group for it, it’s still sure to be a very cute and romantic teen movie that anyone can enjoy. I’ve watched the first two and found them so endearing, so I’m really excited to watch the third in the series.

A Classic: Notting Hill

One of my all time favourites. It’s from the era of very simple English rom-coms in the 90’s. So effortlessly perfect. The story is adorable, the style is impeccable, the humour is dry and the chemistry between the actors is fantastic. They don’t make movies like that anymore.

00’s Favourite: Mean Girls

I’ve been trying to convince my housemates to watch his with me since it came on Netflix (even though I know it off by heart). Maybe this week they will finally cave in. It’s a girly teen comedy that will make you feel 16 again and you can have lots of fun quoting it “Stop trying to make fetch happen!”.

Fairytale: A Cinderella Story

We all want to fall in love with a handsome prince, especially if it’s Chad Michael Murray. I love this classic fairytale readapted to be every 00’s kids dream. My housemate is trying to set me up on a blind date and if it’s not like the prom scene in this movie, I don’t want it.

Mums Favourite: Bridget Jones Diary

This is definitely one you should watch with your mum. This is the chick flick of their generation but it hasn’t aged a day. Every woman, young or old can relate to poor Brigid who always finds herself in embarrassing situations and is in a very dedicated relationship with two men, Ben & Jerry (vegan if you’re a millennial).

Musical: Burlesque

It has Cher and Christina Aguilera. What else could you ask for in a musical movie? These two leading ladies will serve you ultimate girl power and inspire you. The music, the dancing and the costumes are all impeccable, such a treat to watch.

A series: Sex and the City

Don’t bother with the movies (especially 2) the series is all you and your girlfriends need. The ultimate guide to being single in a city. It will remind you that your friends are your true soulmates and a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes.

As Carrie Bradshaw wisely said “The most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you that you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”.

Happy Valentine’s Day girlies! Love yourself first.
