Prague. The Perfect Present.

Celebrating your birthday two months later is an ideal situation for a self-proclaimed attention seeker like myself. My lovely boyfriend got me a trip to Prague for my birthday which I was chuffed with as we were both much in need of a chilled out city break. Prague was the PERFECT destination for this! It’s one of those cities where everything is worth seeing and there was no real stand out feature, it was all just beautiful. Being completely honest, it wasn’t all peachy if you include us having scraps with Ryanair over our carry-on bags or pushing through groups of tourists down narrow streets but none of that could take away from the overall wonderful experience we had. I hope that this little guide from a completely clueless tourist like myself is helpful for anyone thinking of visiting this gorgeous city.

Accommodation

We stayed in Jurys Inn which was absolutely perfect. The room was clean, the breakfast was yum and the location was ideal. We were a one minute walk from the metro station which was only one stop from the city centre!

Sightseeing

Astronomical Clock

As a proud Aries, when I found out there was an astronomical clock in the centre of Prague I was more than a little excited. This was first on our list of sights to see and was of course swarmed by groups and groups of tourists but we still managed to take it in in all it’s glory. I’m not gonna lie I was hoping there would be more to it like it would tell me my horoscope or something but I may have been a little too optimistic!

Charles Bridge

I’d say we walked across this bridge 20 times within three days and on one occasion went up the viewing tower to enjoy the magnificent view of the city. Walking across the bridge we took in everything from the gorgeous view to the architecture and the jazz musicians that played (the city LOVES jazz). The bridge was bustling with tourists like ourselves and always had a great atmosphere.

The Castle

I have to admit, we found it very hard to actually learn about the Prague history and so I don’t actually know what the significance of this castle was (sorry to the royals who lived there). We had to walk up a huge hill to get to it (thankfully there was a Starbucks at the top). The view was amazing and the castle was beautiful.

John Lennon Wall

So the John Lennon wall was pretty cool but ultimately just filled with the same kind of crappy graffiti you’d find inside the stalls of the DCU lib bathrooms! Obviously the original artwork must have been stunning and I did get a few instas out of it but it is still mad to me that this whole wall was dedicated to one man that many people seem to have mixed opinions on? I won’t say too much else because I did really enjoy visiting the wall.

Top tip: The gift shop here is hella cute, the little stone building is located in a garden behind the wall and has lots of cutesy artsy bits and I must say the merch is very creative and funky.

The Peacock Garden

We stumbled across the loveliest garden that was filled with stunning peacocks! Such a calm relaxing spot located in the heart of a busy city. This was genuinely the surprise of the trip and one of my highlights for sure. The name of the garden is actually “Vojanovy Sady” not just the “Peacock Garden” as we lovingly named it.

The Best Foodie Places

Now for my favourite part! I am a complete foodie and love eating and trying new foods. To be honest we didn’t get too adventurous with our food choices but what we did eat was the best of the best.

The Best Pizza I’ve Ever Had

Google is a god send as it led us straight to the most amazing pizza restaurant I’ve ever been to. The name of the restaurant is “San Carlo Mala Strana” (a mouthful, haha get it?). We went here for lunch on our first day and shared a pizza. If I could go back in time I would get one all to myself! The pizza we ordered was the Capricciosa one I never would have thought to try but this one was out of this world. Hands down the best pizza you will ever have.

Dzinner

We were craving burgers and steak and stumbled across the perfect place, “Restaurace Otevreno”. This place was completely underground and super secluded. The menu had so many options at a reasonable price and the beer options were amazing. After a beer and our dinner the waiter treated us to a range of VERY strong shots and we were slightly worse for wear leaving lol!

We are burger enthusiasts so the next night we went to a place recommended to us by a friend called “The Fat Cat’’. Dylan had a burger and I had a gorgeous pasta dish and to say we were full was an understatement! The mojitos were a bit pricey but so worth it.

Dranks

Nice beer, reasonably priced, great atmosphere, what more could you ask for? “Chapeau Rouge” was the ideal place. This place was recommended to us by a friend and was a fantastic spot. We went there one night and the place was buzzing but not too crazy that we couldn’t have a chat. When we came back another night it was jam packed and far too busy for our liking which was a little bit disappointing.

As the title says this was the perfect present and I feel so lucky to have been able to visit this beautiful city. This trip was the perfect combination of action packed sightseeing and chilled out relaxing. Three days was the definitely the right amount of time to spend in Prague.

Everyone should visit this city at least once.

If you won’t take my word for it, take Spiderman’s.
